Happy New Year! It might be cold and snowy outside - and this sure has been a doozy of a winter all across The Great White North - but the frigid weather has never stopped a Canadian from turning on the 'que. Check out this Canuck - Chef Troy King up in Whitehorse, Yukon, grilling on New Year's eve in -40C. Love the toque! Now that's a tough Canadian, eh?
Meet this Month's Kitchen Hero: Ron
Did you check out the side of your spice bottle? Meet Ron, our kitchen hero inspired by CJ's uncle - a welder, avid canoer and outdoorsy guy. CJ's first taste of fish cooked over an open fire was prepared by Ron from fresh barbot they had both fished from the Bonnechere River in Eganville, Ontario. While we admit that Ron's feats on the Burnt Canoe label seem a little far fetched, they are not that crazy for a guy who has, and continues to take on some pretty crazy superhero feats. In the early 1980s, he was one of the first Canadians to complete an Ironman in Hawaii. Ever a guy who likes to push his limits, he registered even though he couldn't swim. Now that's crazy!
A New Way to Use Burnt Canoe
One of our Kitchen Heroes, Layne, says that she's challenging her inner chef. She loves the spice sprinkled on pizza... and get this - now uses it in place of pepper in the pepper shaker! We sure like that idea!
Below are the accompanying recipes and projects for this month's Burnt Canoe Steak Seasoning.
We'd love to hear what you're doing with Burnt Canoe! Maybe you've come up with another use we haven't thought of yet! Share your masterpieces on our FB and Instagram pages. Tell us how you like the spice!
